When I first heard that Dave the Diver is celebrating its second birthday, it was hard to believe it’s already been two years since I shared my impressions in an indie spotlight. Yet, it’s true. This utterly charming deep-sea exploration and sushi restaurant management sim is two years old! To commemorate this milestone, developer Mint Rocket released a delightful video featuring messages from various industry luminaries, alongside some (mostly) good news about its DLC.
Esteemed figures like the team at Black Salt Games, who developed Dredge, actor Neil Newbon from Baldur’s Gate 3 portraying Astarion, head of the Like a Dragon studio Masayoshi Yokoyama, renowned Shift Up director Hyung-Tae Kim, and Subnautica studio CEO Ted Gill, among others, extended their heartfelt wishes to Mint Rocket for Dave the Diver’s anniversary. It’s a sweet gesture, much like the game itself, and definitely worth watching to add some sweetness to your Friday.
Now, let’s dive into that mostly good DLC news I mentioned: The beloved Godzilla DLC is making a comeback! Originally a limited-time event scheduled to end in November 2024, Dave the Diver’s fantastic crossover with Godzilla is now back on Steam for free and will remain available until at least December 2026.
There’s more good news! The equally splendid Dave the Diver Like a Dragon DLC, Ichiban’s Holiday, will be available a little longer than initially planned. Originally set to be removed in October, it will now remain accessible on Steam until the end of next year. These Dave the Diver crossovers faced criticism for being temporary offers, but it’s comforting to know that the availability period has been significantly extended.
Mint Rocket also shared plans to be more considerate about DLC pricing, promising “regular discounts.” In this vein, Ichiban’s Holiday is part of the Steam Summer Sale and can be yours for just $3.49.
Now for a touch of less exciting news: the eagerly anticipated Dave the Diver’s In the Jungle DLC, initially set for release in 2025, has been postponed to early 2026. However, in keeping with the jubilant spirit of the anniversary, the return of the Godzilla DLC should keep us entertained until then.
