Helldivers 2 fans are eagerly anticipating the game’s arrival on Xbox Series X|S on August 26. Excitement is fueled by dreams of an official crossover with Halo, though opinions are divided on the potential collaboration.
The game, which previously featured a Killzone-themed warbond, is now at the center of speculation as divers fantasize about a Halo crossover. With PlayStation seemingly engaging in its own cross-platform exchange with the launch of a Gears of War remaster on PS5 the same day, the possibility of a Halo-themed update has become a trending topic in the Helldivers community.
On the game’s main subreddit, players have enthusiastically shared their crossover concepts, which include mock ups of warbonds featuring ODST armor, iconic weapons like the energy sword, and ponchos resembling Master Chief‘s attire. However, not all divers are on board with these ideas.
Critics argue that Helldivers’ unique identity could be overshadowed by adopting the image of the formidable Master Chief, a character known as the universe’s greatest weapon. A Discord message from Arrowhead boss Johan Pilestedt, however, eased some concerns by suggesting that while characters like Master Chief and Doom Guy might be too advanced, collaborations with outfits like Starship Troopers or ODST would fit well.
For those unfamiliar with Halo, ODST units are elite soldiers who courageously engage with alien foes without the genetic enhancements of Spartans, making them a better match with Helldivers’ concept. They also perform atmospheric drops in pods, aligning with the Helldivers’ deployment style.
Despite its Xbox launch, Helldivers 2 is not set to debut on Game Pass, nor does it plan to support cross-progression. Yet, players are simply excited to welcome this much-anticipated reinforcements.
