Spanning nearly four decades, The Legend of Zelda series has continuously reinvented its central figures, placing them in daring landscapes from skyward realms to oceanic adventures or even in a fallen kingdom of a post-apocalyptic world. Imagining them reincarnated in a courtroom setting during the intricate timeline of Zelda doesn’t seem too far-fetched.

Such is the premise of an extraordinary mod for Ocarina of Time called ‘Hero of Law.’ This modification transforms the classic N64 adventure into an unexpected hybrid with Ace Attorney—essentially, the game it was always destined to become.

Developed by Newer Team modders, the game ingeniously employs Ocarina of Time’s polygonal models to set up a captivating legal drama in Hyrule, inspired by Ace Attorney’s investigative gameplay. Players will cross-examine evidence, spot inconsistencies in witness accounts, and deliver emphatic objections, all while characters from the Zelda universe make appearances. Link even mimics the iconic Phoenix Wright pointing stance, perfectly suited to the role.

You can download the mod directly from Newer Team’s website, although you will need to supply an Ocarina of Time N64 ROM or a Wii Virtual Console WAD file. A free, spoiler-free walkthrough is available for those who find themselves stuck in courtroom dilemmas.

The Newer Team collective has gained prominence through their work on Nintendo game mods, with notable releases for New Super Mario Bros. and 3D Mario that have achieved massive download milestones, surpassing half a million. Their creative ingenuity continues to expand in exciting and unpredictable directions.
