Gearbox has commenced a captivating series of Borderlands 4 character deep-dives over on its YouTube channel. The first spotlight falls on Vex the Siren, showcasing a brief gameplay overview and a lengthier, animated backstory trailer. While it didn’t align with my initial expectations, it’s clear I’ll once again be embodying the role of the Siren Vault Hunter.
Siren origin stories weave intricate narratives within the Borderlands lore, and Vex presents perhaps the most astonishing transformation yet. Her character trailer, aptly titled “Purple Friday,” evokes a gorier take on the hidden dreams of countless retail workers: finally giving unruly customers a memorable lesson—and a tangible piece of their own minds.
Harnessing those Siren powers to endure—and annihilate—a horde of capitalism-driven shoppers wasn’t on my Borderlands 4 bingo card. Vex casually informs her teammates, “It sort of just happened.” Alas, her mysterious work crush didn’t make it, but in return, she gained an enchanting purple feline companion.
This cat, a summon available to Vex through one path of her Siren skill tree, stars prominently in the gameplay montage. Each new installment makes me ponder if this will be the one where I choose a different character. Yet, the allure of the Siren’s unique blend of crowd control, vibrant aesthetics, and mage-like prowess consistently draws me back.
Vex’s Incarnate abilities, featuring an action skill that temporarily transforms her into a reaper with wings and a formidable Eldritch Blast, resonate deeply with me. Given the spell’s effectiveness in Baldur’s Gate 3, it is bound to be powerful here as well.
As Borderlands 4 aficionados eagerly draft skill tree planners well ahead of the launch, creative director issues a reminder that “the game isn’t completed yet” and their meticulously crafted builds remain “subject to change.” Stay updated with weekly digests, tales from your beloved communities, and more.
