The DC Universe has its origins in 1938 with the debut of Superman in Action Comics #1. Fast forward nearly 90 years, and writer Mark Waid is collaborating with some of DC’s premier artists to craft the New History of the DC Universe. This initiative will weave a complete timeline capturing key events and renowned heroes from the venerable superhero chronology.
For Waid, this project represents a ‘dream come true’, supported by artists Jerry Ordway and Todd Nauck on the debut issue of the four-part limited series. More talented artists will be unveiled for subsequent issues.
Waid highlights this opportunity to ‘realign the vast DC continuity into a single master timeline’ alongside some of comics’ finest artists to ensure it truly dazzles. The series promises fresh insights for long-time aficionados and is peppered with Easter eggs, making it a must-read for DC enthusiasts.
Past efforts have sought to unify the DC Universe’s history. Still, given countless continuity alterations, reboots, relaunches, and retcons through the decades, a new iteration is both vital and exciting. Barry Allen, the iconic Flash, will narrate the story, journeying through time in four installments. The initial issue spans from the dawn of time to the birth of the Justice Society, the inaugural superhero team.
Explore an array of covers for this issue, featuring the main cover by Chris Samnee and variants by Dan Mora, Ryan Sook, Mike Cho, and Stanley ‘ArtGerm’ Lau. There’s also a wraparound special by Sook and the first in a series from Scott Koblish showcasing nearly every DC character by era.
‘Working on this project is an absolute thrill,’ beams artist Nauck. ‘Each page features something exciting, and collaborating with a comics giant like Jerry Ordway is an honor. The DC editorial team’s cache of deep-dive references is enlightening, even for a decades-long reader like me.’

‘As someone who contributed to the iconic Crisis on Infinite Earths in the ’80s, it’s exhilarating to craft this fresh chapter of the DC saga with Mark and Todd,’ remarks artist Ordway. New History of the DC Universe #1 hits shelves on June 25.
