The Electric State, despite its hefty $320 million budget, has been unable to maintain a strong position in Netflix’s Top 10. The sci-fi adventure, featuring stars like Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, faced low viewership in its initial three days and has now descended to fifth place.
Surprisingly, it has been outpaced by Kraven the Hunter, a much-maligned comic book adaptation, currently sitting at number three. In an unexpected twist, viewers are opting for Aaron Taylor Johnson’s battle against a CGI rhino-man over a film by the creators behind Avengers: Infinity War.
For Netflix, this might not be a significant concern considering their expansive budget plans in 2025. Spencer Neumann, Netflix’s CFO, emphasized, “We’re not anywhere near a ceiling,” and projected a spending spree of around $18 billion this year alone. Even though The Electric State is among the costliest films made, for Netflix, it seems less momentous financially.
The mixed reception, marked by a 15% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, further dims the film’s future. Nonetheless, it doesn’t end the Russo Brothers’ partnership with Netflix. They’re poised for more with a sequel to their hit, The Gray Man, starring Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling. Joe Russo revealed to GamesRadar+, “We’re developing concepts we think are the right direction… juggling like 14 things at the same time.”
Two major projects demanding their attention are Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for 2026 and 2027 releases. For those seeking a quality film on Netflix, check out the 25 best movies to watch on Netflix right now, offering entertainment transcending recent setbacks.
