BioWare has unexpectedly thrown a lifeline to fans of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The previous patch for this beloved RPG seemed to point towards BioWare moving on, as it claimed future updates would only address serious bugs. Yet, in a surprise twist, BioWare has just introduced a new update for the PC version, unveiling a fresh weapon pack.

The Rooks Weapons Appearance Pack introduces cosmetic upgrades to the game. It is offered as a complimentary addition to the Steam version of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with the game currently sporting a 50% discount, bringing its price to $32/£25. However, this pack is only redeemable for those who already own the game or purchase it by April 8, which is quite unusual. There’s been no comment on whether this pack will later launch on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.

Though it may only be a handful of new weapons, any addition to Veilguard is remarkable given the rocky journey of its developer post-launch. Shortly after the game debuted, EA revealed that the fourth Dragon Age instalment fell short by 50% of its sales target.

Subsequently, EA implemented layoffs at BioWare and reassigned some developers to other teams within the company. They announced that Mass Effect 5 would now be the primary focus for the team, nearly extinguishing fan hopes for major updates to Veilguard.

Emphasizing the situation further, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is now practically a giveaway as a free monthly game for millions of PlayStation Plus subscribers.
