Ubisoft has finally unleashed its highly anticipated action RPG, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and the excitement surrounding it is undeniable. The game made its debut today, and it’s already setting impressive new records on Steam, outshining previous entries in the series.

Currently, Assassin’s Creed Shadows boasts “Very Positive” reviews on the platform. Yet, more astonishing than the positive reception is the sheer number of players diving into this fresh adventure. Remarkably, the game reached an all-time peak shortly after launching, drawing in an impressive 28,620 players. This figure not only marks a milestone for Shadows but also leaves other titles in its dust.

For context, consider the peak numbers of past releases: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla attracted 15,431 players in December 2022. In striking contrast, Shadows managed 13,189 more players on its first day than Valhalla’s best. Another comparison can be drawn with Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which had a peak of 7,837 users—20,783 fewer than Shadows.

However, Shadows still has a journey ahead to surpass some of the series’ giants like Odyssey and Origins. Assassin’s Creed Origins hit an impressive 41,541 players at its peak, and Odyssey reached a towering 61,984 users, leaving a gap of 33,364 from Shadows’ current highest mark. Yet, the early success gives optimism that Shadows might eventually close in on these numbers, especially with its reputation for “thriving on boldness,” as highlighted in our own Assassin’s Creed Shadows review.
