After a long wait, the much-anticipated anime adaptation of Disney Twisted-Wonderland finally has a full-length trailer released during AnimeJapan 2025. This trailer offers fans an exciting glimpse into this project that’s been in the works for years.
Originally announced in 2021, the show is inspired by the popular mobile gacha game and its accompanying manga. Set in a mystical boarding school filled with characters inspired by iconic villains from Disney, the narrative introduces an Isekai theme through the adventure of a human named Yuusen who is unexpectedly transported to this fantastical realm. At the school, students are divided into seven houses that compete in various activities.
The trailer wonderfully captures Yuusen’s transition from his mundane life to this magical world. Everything changes for him in an instant as he faces a talking cat emitting blue flames and meets the school’s peculiar students. The first season is subtitled Episode of Heartslabyul, a reference to the initial volume of the manga. The imagery smartly blends Disney’s well-loved style with an authentic anime flair.
The original game consists of seven chapters, each centered around a house. However, the manga has only adapted four chapters so far, each narrated by a different protagonist. Whether the anime will follow this varied storytelling approach or consistently focus on Yuusen remains to be seen.
Fans can mark their calendars for an October 2025 premiere on Disney Plus. The anticipation builds as the series, set to span three seasons, comes under the direction of Shin Katagai, with Yumeta Company and Graphinica managing the animation. For those unfamiliar with this universe, the game initially launched exclusively in Japan in 2020, eventually reaching the US and Canada in 2022.
The series’ intriguing settings and characters were crafted under the guidance of Yana Toboso, known for creating Black Butler.
