During the promotional tour for the much-anticipated A Minecraft Movie, Jason Momoa has been dropping hints about his upcoming role as Lobo, who is set to feature in next year’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Such is Momoa’s enthusiasm for his new character that he almost let slip too much information in an interview, leaving James Gunn thankful for a timely intervention.

During a conversation with Cinemablend, Momoa was questioned about how Lobo’s costume is being brought to life for its big-screen debut, specifically whether he would don the iconic “white make-up all over” like the comic book’s rendition. In response, Momoa simply stated, “I’m covered,” and hinted at having a photo of himself suited up.

As he reached for his phone to unveil the image to the journalist, his vigilant publicist swiftly intervened, exclaiming, “Jason, don’t do it!” thereby averting an unapproved early reveal of Lobo. Momoa humorously acknowledged, “You were that close to the scoop, bro.”

Reacting to this incident on his Threads account, James Gunn expressed his appreciation, stating, “I just want to profoundly thank Jason’s publicist.” Despite having to wait for an official image release, Momoa has shared some insights over recent weeks, emphasizing how Lobo embodies the chaotic space mercenary persona, replete with white skin, red eyes, a long black mane, and a biker’s sleeveless ensemble.

This marks a stark contrast to his earlier portrayal of Aquaman, now part of the past as James Gunn and Peter Safran steer the refreshed DC Universe, introducing Momoa as a fresh, vibrant character. Momoa disclosed his dedication to the role, going so far as to live the part by having everyone on set address him by the character’s name.

“This is the role I’ve always wanted to play,” he admitted to ScreenRant. “That’s the comic I loved, so I’m really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It’s pretty big. I don’t want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character.”

Momoa is set to star alongside Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, hitting theaters on July 26, 2026. Eager fans can keep track of every upcoming DCU movie and show with our detailed guide here.
