Linda Cardellini has landed the pivotal role in Peacock’s thrilling new series, ‘Crystal Lake’, a prequel to the classic Friday the 13th movies. This highly anticipated show draws its name from the infamous summer camp where the legend of Jason Voorhees was first born. According to Variety, Cardellini will portray Pamela Voorhees, the vengeful mother who is revealed to be the surprise killer in the original 1980 film.
The sequel, 1981’s Friday the 13th Part 2, shifted gears by introducing Jason himself as the main antagonist, evolving into the hockey-masked, relentless figure that could withstand and inflict endless brutality. This unstoppable villain defined the slasher genre, sparking a wave of terrifying imitators and eventually clashing with other notorious figures like Freddy Krueger.
In keeping with recent trends, Peacock’s ‘Crystal Lake’ aims to delve deeper into the roots of this chilling tale. The series sees A24, the studio renowned for its unique psychological and horror films, handling production duties, with Brad Kaleb Kane as the show’s guiding force.
Cardellini is celebrated for her diverse performances in projects such as Freaks and Geeks, Scooby-Doo, and the expansive Avengers franchise. Her portrayal of Pamela Voorhees is expected to unravel the complex path leading to her transformation into a ruthless avenger. Despite being announced in 2022, the series has faced a slow development journey, with no confirmed premiere date yet.
