Recent reports hint at the quiet cancellation of an unannounced Hogwarts Legacy DLC amidst shifts in the Warner Bros. gaming department. Industry insider Jason Schreier from Bloomberg highlighted that the expansion aimed to introduce new storylines to the beloved open-world game. This DLC was expected to launch alongside a Definitive Edition, referenced last year as a Director’s Cut.

The expansion was reportedly a collaborative effort between Avalanche and Rocksteady (known for Suicide Squad and the Arkham series). It aimed to reintroduce a storyline related to an original game companion that was previously cut. Sources familiar with the project revealed the DLC’s termination was partly due to doubts about the content’s value matching its proposed price.

While awaiting a statement from Warner Bros., it becomes apparent that Hogwarts Legacy’s triumph starkly contrasts with recent headlines regarding Suicide Squad and other WB endeavors. Notably, WB canceled their Wonder Woman game, shuttered the historic Monolith studio, and announced the closure of Player First Games, creators of MultiVersus, which is set to end in 2025.

Given these developments, it’s understandable that WB might seek to capitalize continuously on Hogwarts Legacy’s success even two years post-launch. While company leaders emphasize a sequel as a priority, the prospect for original DLC appears bleak.

The Hogwarts Legacy release has generated significant controversy due to J.K. Rowling’s views on gender identity, casting shadows on the inclusivity cherished by the Harry Potter community. For a deeper dive, see our explainer on the Hogwarts Legacy controversy.
