Death of a Unicorn and ex-Barry star Anthony Carrigan recently spoke about his exciting new venture this year—James Gunn’s Superman. Carrigan emphasizes that he is not drawing comparisons to the director’s other famous works, which featured a cybernetically modified raccoon and a talking tree. Embellished with a star-studded ensemble of DC heroes led by David Corenswet as the iconic figure in the long red cape, Carrigan takes on the role of Metamorpho, who makes a fleeting appearance in the teaser for this much-anticipated comic book film.

While maintaining discretion about his role in Superman’s saga, Carrigan hinted to The Hollywood Reporter that even though this project might not mirror the adventures of Star-Lord and his eclectic squad, it could still embrace the exceptional qualities akin to those in Guardians of the Galaxy. “I am hesitant to liken it to Guardians, but I do think that Superman has the same heart and intelligence. That’s James’ trademark,” Carrigan remarked. “But I think it’s going to be its own thing entirely. The process of working on it was such a special one, and the whole cast was on board with bringing something really special to it. So, hopefully, that’s conveyed onscreen.”

After analyzing the trailer, it is evident that Gunn’s first portrayal of the Man of Steel is densely packed with appearances by Green Lantern Guy Gardener (played by Nathan Fillion), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) who all join the action. Metamorpho, however, is shown briefly in a stunning close-up, with Carrigan hidden under prosthetics that showcase the superhero’s remarkable abilities.

First appearing in 1965, Metamorpho, also known as Rex Mason, possesses the extraordinary power to alter his body to any element he desires—allowing him to stretch, solidify, or vaporize. This ability makes him an invaluable ally to the Justice League as they continue to safeguard the world during Superman’s initial solo journey. Discover how he and the rest of the cast tackle the adventure when Superman launches into theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay informed with updates on every DC movie and TV show headed our way.
